An email to NorthPoints Trustee elucidating the human factor at stake in the litigation.
March 11, 2002
Dear Ms. Schoenmann,
My name is XXXXX XXXXXX. I'm 53, married a father of 4. I own 50,000 shares of Northpoint stock. I haven't worked since April, 2001. I'm on what will undoubtedly be permanent medical disability. The Northpoint stock represents the majority of my financial future. I am interested in news about the trial. Prior to last April I worked for more than 20 years as a Telecommunications Engineer. I worked in the trade when Judge Green broke up AT&T and was at Sprint when the Communications Act of 1996 was passed. Over the years I've had business dealings with all of the "Baby Bells". I've watched as competition has steadily been reduced as they merge and consolidate market power. It isn't good. When there were several DSL competitors in it's territory South Western Bell began "Project Pronto" a multi-billion dollar project designed to bring all of their customers within fiber reach of high speed networking -- how grand!. Now, Northpoint and many others are gone and so is Project Pronto.
Without competition and the challenge of energetic, entrepreneurial minds beneficial progress for the consumer stops.
Letting Verizon get away with this stifles the spirit that built America. Teddy Roosevelt knew -- he broke up trusts that created virtual monopolies. "The first thing in dealing with an evil is to give the authorities the power to deal with it," he said. "You cannot trust men who do not show by their actions an honest intention to meet a problem on its merits." Ms. Schoenmann you represent "the power to deal with it". Please send a message to Verizon and all of Corporate America that honesty is a necessity. Roosevelt continued, "Each man lifts his head higher when the nation does its duty,". "Each man hangs his head if the nation meets disgrace." Corporate words must match deeds.
If there is an email distribution list for new regarding Northpoint please add my name, XXXXXXXXXXXX. If there is another way to obtain current news, as you have time, please let me know.
Sincerest best wishes -- be well,
xxxx
